Congratulations on your Appointment!

Thanks for joining us. As an Aboriginal Elder, you have a strong interest in ensuring that actions we take as humans have as little environmental impact as possible. Now you, perhaps more than most, will understand the delicate nature of the environment in Australia. You need to form a mental picture on how key environmental issues relate to this quest.

This page will guide you through the main issues and prompt you to find examples (facts, statistics, quotations, or any other inputs) that you believe provide support for your views on the issues posed by this quest.

After you've collected an example for each of the issues, you will need to combine these into a single statement that represents a "Truth" about that particular key issue related to how tree clearing in Australia has affected the environment.  You will repeat this process three times.

Here is a site, Miara, that the owner wants to develop that is home to many organisms. Here is some information about Miara.
1) Here is a link to a language map that shows the Aboriginal languages used in Australia, and a map of boundaries of tribes

2)What can you find out about indigenous people and their responsibilities to the land?

3) How do Aboriginal beliefs and practices differ from white Australian beliefs and practices?

4) How did Aborigines survive for so long before whiteman's arrival? Who adapts better to the environment? Aborigines or white man?

You will have the opportunity to speak with an Aboriginal Elder around this issue. Your time will be limited so you need to think about questions you may like to ask prior to the meeting. Working your way through the above questions will help you have a better idea of the questions you would like to ask.

Now you need to organise the information you have gathered and decide what you, the Aboriginal Elder, thinks would be the best option for the development, or not, of the land at Miara. Try using a flow chart to do this or plus and minus columns to weigh issues up.
Remember that you may use the Aboriginal Elder wiki to discuss issues with other Aboriginal Elders.
Present your opinion in a professional manner either by movie, powerpoint, still frame animation, which ever way you think will best showcase your point of view and persuade others.

Here is a link to a wiki that is for Aboriginal Elders only. A place where you can meet with other Elders and discuss the issues at hand.

Here is a link to a voice thread where you can type or record your thoughts around the image and listen to fellow Elders thoughts.
